Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CostToUpgrade ("CostToUpgrade", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the website at https://costtoupgrade.com and the calculators, guides, and related services we provide (collectively, the "Site"). By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site.

Summary

We try to collect as little personal information as possible. The numbers and project details you type into our calculators are processed entirely in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. We receive personal information only when you choose to give it to us (for example, by contacting us or subscribing to updates) and a limited amount of technical information that is collected automatically when any visitor loads a web page. We do not sell your personal information for money.

Information we collect

Information you provide to us

  • Contact submissions. If you use our contact form, we collect the name, email address, subject/topic, and message content you submit so we can respond.
  • Newsletter subscriptions. If you subscribe to email updates, we collect your email address.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical and log data. When you visit the Site or submit a form, our hosting and security provider and our servers may receive standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and settings, device and operating system information, referring URLs, the pages you view, and the date and time of your request. When you submit the contact form, your IP address and browser user-agent are recorded with your message to help prevent abuse and spam.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. We and our partners may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies as described in the "Cookies and advertising" section below.

Information we do not collect

Calculator inputs (dimensions, prices, quantities, and the results they produce) are computed locally in your browser. We do not receive, log, or store the values you enter into a calculator.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and its calculators and guides;
  • respond to your inquiries and provide customer support;
  • send the email updates you request, and let you unsubscribe at any time;
  • measure general traffic and usage trends so we can improve content and performance;
  • detect, prevent, and address spam, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues; and
  • comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

Cookies and advertising

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use a limited set of cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the Site to function and to understand aggregate usage. Our advertising and affiliate partners may also set cookies, as described below.

Google AdSense. We use Google AdSense to display advertising on the Site. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of personalized advertising from participating vendors at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu. For more information on how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Site work.

Affiliate links

Some pages contain affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate partners may use cookies to attribute a referral. We mark such links as sponsored where appropriate.

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only as follows:

  • Service providers. We use trusted third parties to operate the Site — including our hosting, content-delivery, and security provider (Cloudflare), our advertising provider (Google), and the email and messaging tools we use to receive and respond to contact submissions and to send subscription emails. These providers process information on our behalf for the purposes described in this Policy.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a security incident.
  • Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

Please note that some privacy laws define "sale" or "sharing" broadly to include the use of advertising cookies to deliver personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising using the controls described in the "Cookies and advertising" section above.

Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including to respond to your inquiries, provide the updates you requested, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it. You may ask us to delete information you have provided, as described in "Your privacy rights."

Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information. We honor these rights regardless of where you reside, to the extent practicable.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request access to or deletion of your personal information; to correct inaccurate information; and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To opt out of personalized advertising, use the controls in the "Cookies and advertising" section. To make any other request, contact us at [email protected].

EEA, UK, and other regions (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a similar jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, update, port, restrict, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Our legal bases for processing include your consent (for example, for email subscriptions and advertising cookies), our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site, and compliance with legal obligations. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

International data transfers

We are based in the United States, and the Site is operated from and hosted on infrastructure that may process data in the United States and other countries. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries whose data protection laws may differ from those of your country.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no industry-standard response to DNT signals, and we currently do not respond to them. You can still control advertising cookies using the opt-out tools described above.

Children's privacy

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other websites

The Site may link to third-party websites and services that we do not operate or control. This Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be posted on this page; your continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
